Tackling it

I'm back. Back to the land of the living. It's been a crazy few weeks- lots of sickness, etc. But I'm back (mostly).

So, my Tackle it in Ten project for today is this. This blog, I mean. I've been meaning to get around to it for weeks and now that I'm actually doing it, I can't find my cord to my camera, so no pics- hopefully soon, I have a lot to show you!

So, a quick rundown of the last little while-

Dance Concert- went very well. It's always so much work for one night (we're talking months of rehearsing our guts out (sometimes literally)), and yet somehow still worth it. I've been very blessed to still be able to pursue my childhood passion, blessed that my body still allows it, blessed that my husband still allows it! In all of my years of performing, the peak moment, the absolute best ever, was during this concert. I was literally tearing up on stage it was so great! That moment was when Parker came onto the stage for her solo/ duet with me. Seriously, being onstage (one of my most favorite things on earth) with my daughter (one of my even favoritest things on earth)- amazing! Yeah, I tear up just thinking about that moment. If I never dance again, I will feel fulfilled from that 45 seconds.

Sickness- and more sickness. All kinds of stomach junk floating around for everyone but Jesse. Not fun. Still trying to catch up on the house.

Sam turned 3 (oh, yeah and I turned 29 again this year!). He was so happy with his gifts and the balloons tied to his bed when he woke up. There's something so fun about birthdays at that age. We got to celebrate with both sets of Grandparents which is always fun.

Soccer- Matt's coaching Parkers soccer team again this year and it's a lot of fun. Most of his team is from our new nieghborhood, so it's been a great way to get to know them. Avery didn't play again this year, saying "next year, I will". We've heard that before.

Baby Jesse- Growing, so sweet, smiles that will melt your heart on the spot, and really a happy baby. We'll find out more on his situation at the end of next month, but so far, the goal has been changed to adoption instead of reunification. Yeah for us. Hopefully the judge will agree that this is in his best interest. I just can't imagine letting him go. He's been with us for a little over a month now and he's ours. He belongs here.

So, that's the quick version of what we've been up to. Nothing fabulously exciting, but definatley enough to keep us going. Tackle it project can now be checked off the list!

Curve Balls

Ok, so this week hasn't exactly been what the week I planned. I had all sorts of ideas of all of the fun, mostly outdoor activities we'd enjoy. We'd sew matching pj pants for Hadley and the cousins. We'd have picnics at the park and stroll around the zoo. Of course I also planned on having the energy to do all this with a smile on my face while doing all of the last minute stuff for the childrens dance piece I'm choreographing, getting one of my solo parts down for concert, and keeping up on the laundry. Um, let's just say it didn't go as planned- none of it. Hadley will join her Mama & Daddy tommorrow, and I have a rehearsal with a choreographer and I'm totally lost when it comes to my solo. And the laundry? Let's not talk about it.

But there is one thing that I didn't plan on. That was this little guy. As of sunday, I had no idea I was about to become the Mama of a newborn again. As of sunday, I had no idea the joy and love this little one would bring into our family. We've all fallen for him so fast, it's not even funny. I worried how Sam would react since he is a total Mama's Boy and a little on the spoiled side, but he's taken to it so wonderfully! He's always asking to hold the baby and help feed the baby. Good, good. I don't know how long he'll be with us. His future is uncertain for sure. But no matter what happens, he will always be a part of our family! For all of you who are just now hearing about this or who I haven't been able to call and talk to about it, please know that I've wanted to. I'm still trying to figure out how to go from 3 munchkins to 5 (6 mon-thurs, when I babysit) within the same week. So, please forgive me and hopefully we can chat soon! I so want this sweet little babe to feel of your influence in his life, even if just for a little while. He deserves to be surrounded by all of the love and support he possibly can be. His short 2 months haven't been easy. And thanks for all of your love and support as we take on this new challenge! There is no way we could even consider taking this path without the amazing support system we have!

This week has been crazy for sure, you should see my house (Jen K., I know you're laughing right now!)! But with all of the craziness, there have been those moments that make me smile. Like this one when Sam and Hadley both refused to take naps and I gave in thinking maybe they'd wind down with a movie...

So... on to the promised list of a few of the things I've been inspired by this week (and the last few weeks).

  • Sunday Stations- We read about this idea in the March issue of the Friend. So simple and so fun! We've been doing it through the month of March and we all look forward to it. It's the perfect way to help the kids wind down for the beloved sunday nap! If you don't have access to the friend, go to www.lds.org. Then go to gospel library and down to magazines. It'll take you from there.
  • My friend Jenny from simplelifelove.com has inspired me to eat more leafy greens. Not quite as much as she's been eating, but definetley more than I've been eating!
  • My friend Carolyn has been doing lots of fun things with her kiddos each day. She's inspired me to try harder to be more actively involved with my babies. Sorry, her blog is private, but if you want some ideas, let me know and I'll pass 'em on.
  • Conference Ideas from the Ensign- looking forward to trying out some of these great ideas with the fam. (For more info, follow the same directions in the first bullet, but choose the Ensign instead of the Friend.)
Really looking forward to all of the inspiration from General Conference this weekend. I love to hear our Prophet speak and the amazing feelings and thoughts that follow. Really, really looking forward to spending it with my family!

Hadley at our house

Our niece Hadley loves animals. She come from the farm and is not scared of anything on four feet, even our dog Hatch.

Sam and Hadley decided that they needed to have a quick derby before dinner.

Today

First, a little explanation for the rest of my readers who aren't family. This week we get to have our niece, Hadley Anne cupcake stay with us. Her mommy is staying in the hospital to try and keep her baby sister inside for a little while longer, and daddy needs to work (darn insurance!). So, every day we'll be posting pics, etc. for Mom to see what cupcake's doing....

Today we played princess most of the day. Parker put matching makeup on Hadley and herself and they got all dressed up for a proper princess lunch. Of course Sam tagged along as the prince who was going to marry both of them. (I didn't really want to explain that us Mormon folk no longer practice polygamy, not to mention the fact that his brides to be were his sister and his cousin- that's a whole different mormon myth!)

When we weren't princesses, we were jumping on Parker's bed (a mattress on the floor while we finish her room), playing beauty shop and dressing baby dolls. Hadley really loves Hatch, but he gets a little too excited and she says "Hatch sure is a hyper boy". We also sang "HI my name is Joe" and some other silly songs that Hadley really got a kick out of. After all of that playing, she was one tired little girl! We got her in her jammies, wrapped her up in her blankie, and she was out like a light!

Tommorrow we plan on making tutus, now if we can just decide between pink and red!

As for me, I spent the majority of the afternoon cleaning up poop. Dog, kids, fun. After about the fourth consecutive round of clorox wipes and hand washing, I decided to get the mail and sit down for a few well deserved minutes. To my surprise I found an adorable card from my sister. No real reason except that she's super thoughtful like that. Made my day. Other things that brought me a ray of sunshine today, my apricot branches that I brought in are blooming, and we found out that tommorrow we are getting a new family member! We will be fostering a one year old boy and we are very excited! More info when I have some!

Hoping that your day wasn't as poop- filled as mine, Goodnight!

Tackle It Tuesday - on Friday

Ok, so I'm finally getting around to posting Tuesdays projects! Oh well, such is life. So, here we go.. This week I needed a little spring inside the house since the outside was covered in snow- again!

The sofa table: random green objects and apricot blossoms being forced to bloom a little early.

The entry table: Eggs and more eggs. My only purchase this spring (a little tight on the decorating budget, you know)- a whole carton of fake quail eggs for a couple bucks. I've used them in several places throughout the house and still have half of the container full -love them! Hot glue and spray paint are fabulous friends of mine.

The dining table: My bucket of fake grass (leftover from Valentines day) with a few marble easter eggs and some sweet little ceramic chickies. The marble easter eggs were our first easter decorations after we got married. Awesome dollar store find complete with little eggs stands.

Next week I promise to try to post on time. And I'm really not trying to turn this into a decorating blog. Also next week, I'll be starting Inspire Me Fridays. A little list of things I've been inspired by throughout the week.

So, are you joining me in the Tackle It in Ten projects? What have you been doing? I want to know!! (I need you to inspire me for next fridays post!)

Oh and a little extra joy from our house this last couple of weeks- especially for you Grandma & Papa!
Avery finally decided to learn to ride her bike without training wheels. The girl can be very stubborn! (Yes, Dad, I know where she gets it from!) We'd been practicing a little bit, but hadn't really practiced starting off on her own. We were outside the other day and she came out with her bike and her helmet (on backwards you'll notice) and just took off! I ran in the house for the camera and made her start again.

Happy everything!

Happy St. Patricks Day! Here are a couple of the little ways we celebrated today...

Over the rainbow cupcakes complete with gold at the end for the girls classes.

Parker's 3 leaf clover hair-do (I got this fun idea from a hair blog- thanks Jen!).

And we started the morning off right with a leprechaun kiss on the kids cheeks, green leprechaun eggs and four leaf clover pastries! I know, I'm a little cheesy, but why not celebrate the little things?

On to other happy things...

I found these little beauties peeking out of my front flower bed this afternoon. What a happy surprise! I love discovering what's growing in the yard each spring ( especially because the last 3 springs have been in different houses!).

And here it is, my Tackle it in Ten project...

A happy little spring time centerpiece. I love putting things together from around the house. It's always cool to feel like something is brand new and it didn't cost you anything!

Hope you have a happy day too!

Tackle It in Ten Tuesday

I am an idea and information junkie. I'm continually feeling inspired by other peoples ideas. One thing that I notice is that I always think to myself, "wow, how do they find the time?" Most of you know that I am a fabulous procrastinator. I have a whole lot of big ideas and I even start stocking up on the supplies. My problem is the follow through. I put things off because I imagine them taking up a big chunk of time that I don't have, so I hold off until the magical day when the big chunks of time fall into my lap from the heavens. I'm still waiting. Sometimes, I actually go for the gold and get something finished and I realize that it didn't take near the time I anticipated. WHAT? I waited to finish that and it only took 10 minutes?! You know what? I have an occasional 10 minutes!

When thinking about the new year, I've decided I don't want to live my life that way anymore. I want to DO those fun projects and CREATE the life I long for. So, here's part of the solution. Tuesdays are usually pretty open for me, so I decided that would be a good regular time to tackle some of those little projects.

May I introduce to you...

Tackle it in Ten Tuesday

I'm guessing that I am not the only one who puts off those little projects that can simplify or beautify our lives. So, I invite you to join me. Every tuesday I will be posting a project that I've been wanting to tackle and I want to hear (and see if possible) the things you tackle. There are no rules. It can be anything you've had on your to-do list: take the kids to the library, redecorate the entry table, bake those gooey cinnamon rolls, whatever. And it doesn't really have to only take ten minutes. I mostly threw that in there to remind myself that every project is not as big as I make it out to be. Oh, and you don't really have to do it on tuesday if saturday works better for you.
So you wanna play? Just leave your comment on my tuesday posts and if you feel like sharing, a link to pics on your blog or whatever. And maybe in the near future I'll devote myself to figuring out how to do one of those fancy linky parties to share results (maybe I'll make that one of my Tackle it projects!).

So, to start things off with a bang I started two BIG projects today:

Painting the girls room, and...

Officially Potty training this guy.

A little over-zealous?
Maybe. But hey, if I decide to procrastinate this whole thing next week, atleast I did two this week!
